This lake also has a few legends associated with it. The lake gets its name from Tsombak Tensing who was a famous Buddhist saint who meditated here for years and was later buried here as well.
It is said that Tsombak Tensing used to speak to his followers through the water surface of the lake and that because he spoke through this surface, this part became known as “Smonpa” which means “from below”.
